Video Interview with a Shakespeare Expert
On His New Book, the State of Literary Criticism, and What's So Great About Shakespeare
This is my first-ever recorded interview with a guest on The Hazelnut. I am joined by Dr. Gideon Rappaport, a dramaturge and former literature teacher, who recently wrote a book called Appreciating Shakespeare, which I had the pleasure of reading and reviewing.
In this 40 minute interview, we talk about Dr. Rappaport’s background, how he got into Shakespeare, how Shakespeare studies have gone so awry after being hijacked by Postmodernism and Neo-Marxism (and what to do about it), the difference between approaching a text with humility vs. pride, advice for literature teachers, and Dr. Rappaport’s favorite Shakespeare play.
You can get a copy of Appreciating Shakespeare here.
You can read my review of the book here.
