Be still my soul! This was wonderful. I encountered fireflies, for the first time, a few years ago on a trip to Kentucky. I was utterly enchanted and it moved me to write a poem. They are indeed a magical gift from God.
Thank you for what you write. I was only just introduced to you via an article in The Epoch my father-in-law handed to me. It was on the epics and it made me cry; and so, of course, I looked up your substack. You are now one of the only three I follow. I’ve also got one of your books on my summer reading list. I am a classical educator who found classical education late in life and only recently completed a masters in the great books. I am also, a mother of seven and you give me hope (my sole son is called Walker). May God richly bless you as you swim against the tide of this present age!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm so glad that you have understood and appreciated my work. You don't know how encouraging that is. Thank you for following me as well. I hope to reward your loyalty with more content that you find meaningful. Where did you get a master's in the great books, if may ask? Those are hard to come by!
A small college that actually just launched during the pandemic. It’s called Memoria College and is based in Louisville. Have you heard of Memoria Press? It is a sister company that publishes classical curriculum.
It was an incredible experience!! It was Providence that I ended up in the program. I just saw your freelance writing business. I am actually working on an article that is giving me endless hassles. I should seek your services. I will most definitely be passing on your info.
In fact, I recently told one of my professors/ friends about you after reading your Walker Percy article. He is an author as well!! The world needs more voices like yours!
Oh, very cool! I've heard of them Memoria College). The program looks great. Currently, I'm enrolling in a liberal arts certificate program through the Albertus Magnus Institute, which looks rather similar.
Sure, if you need any assistance with your article, I'm happy to take a look.
Loved it! I remember as a small child at my grandmothers farm in North Carolina, Everyone was rocking or sitting on the front porch after dinner. The whole world seemed sparkling like diamonds in the sky and on the grass. My aunt gave me a jar to catch fireflies. The whole jar was like a lantern lit!
I was fascinated but let them all go because when they are captured they lose their light...just like we do. God is sooo Good!
Thanks for reading and for the comment! I agree. Fireflies are magic, a gift from God. We're just starting to see them again around our house these past few days.
