A superb overview of human culture marred by nihilism, a philosophy profoundly destructive, yet as someone else had said, worthy of study. Using the background of the ancient poem, Beowulf, Walker, thankfully, gives a clear brief review of the pertinent classic work, then deftly compares the culture of today. Outside of God, is there hope for modern culture? Walker says that there is, and I agree with him, but a nagging nihilistic pall says not really. It may be too late. I’ve long disliked the study of nihilism. Now I’m off to pick up a copy of Beowulf, in modern English of course, for the rest of the long-forgotten story/poem.
